As you leave the Carl Sandburg Home, you should drop by the Firefly Craft Gallery on your way to get a treat at the Flat Rock Bakery.
The gallery is small, but the pieces there are well chosen.
There is a little bit of everything. And it is all locally made.
Firefly Craft Gallery also sells children’s books by Helene Lund Den Boer. She is from Denmark and lives here in Hendersonville.
Janet Leazenby is better known for her pottery. This was the first time I had seen her paintings. I love them!
See the glass spider webs over the door? Those are by stained glass artist Kathy Goldstein. He lives here in Hendersonville, too. She also makes 3-D birds and flowers from stained glass. Firefly Craft Gallery also has work by award winning stained-glass artist Donna Martin.
Firefly Craft Gallery has handcrafted jewelry made by Ruthie Cohen, Jennifer Salak, Candy Emerson and other local fine crafters.
These little dishes are made by Sukey Pratt. They are slab built and formed, then embossed and hand painted.
The gallery has carved faces by Mark Henneberry and Don Blackwell. Mark Henneberry is from Brevard. He teaches wood carving at Isothermal Community College.
Don Blackwell also works in pencil, pen and ink , watercolor, airbrush, and colored pencil. He has work in museums. Original pieces are sold in the Firefly Craft Gallery.
The Firefly Craft Gallery is next to the Flat Rock Post Office (and my dentist) at the corner of Greenville Highway and Little River Road. From Hendersonville, you pass the Flat Rock Playhouse and turn right to Little River Road to visit the Carl Sandburg Home. The Firefly Craft Gallery is just past that, on the right.
Directions to Firefly Craft Gallery from Meadowbrook Log Cabin
Firefly Craft Gallery is less than 5 miles from the cabin.
- Turn right onto US-25 toward town. Just stay on this road.
- At the intersection where CVS is on the left and PetsMart is on the right, be sure to stay in the far right lane. All of the other lanes turn left.
Now you are on NC-225 S. - Stay on this same road. It’s another 2 1/2 miles, just after the Flat Rock Playhouse and the light with the sign pointing to the Carl Sandburg Home.
Firefly Craft Gallery is on the right. This is the little Flat Rock Downtown.
